You study hard for around a year to gain your Level 3 in Childcare, Children and Young People Workforce, Early Years etc and you do not have a GCSE pass in Maths or English or Functional Skills Level 2 can you class yourself as Level 3 qualified?

The answer is “no” unfortunately and you would be classed as a Level 2 until you gained your GCSE or Functional Skills. The only time this doesn’t apply is if you completed your qualification before September 2014. In a nutshell you need Maths and English if you started your Level 3 qualification from September 2014 onwards.

If you are studying for your Level 2 you will not need GCSE/Functional Skills Maths and English but it would be advisable if you completed Functional Skills Level 1.

Why do you need GCSE/Functional Skills? It is because as a Nursery Nurse/Assistant etc you are an educator and in order to educate you need a certain level of education.
