It is never nice when you have applied for the job of your dreams as a Nursery Nurse, Nursery Room Leader, Deputy or Nursery Manager at an amazing nursery, you plan what you are going to say and wear, you do, in your opinion, everything right and yet you are told “I am really sorry but we can not offer you the position”. To say that you are gutted is a total understatement. So what do you do?
Research shows that on average you will be rejected twenty six times before you are offered so you can look at it positively and you are twenty five times nearer to receiving a “yes”.
First thing is please do not take it personally as there would be other applicants who may have been more qualified (you may have a Level 2 in childcare qualification whereas other candidates have a Level 3 or maybe higher), they may have more experience working in a nursery compared to yourself.
Ask the nursery/pre school whom you went for the interview for feedback. By understanding why they did not choose you is going to help you for your next interview. It is important to accept what is being said to you whether it is good or bad.
Are you being realistic with your application for a nursery position? If you are unqualified and have no experience, then it is very unlikely you will be accepted for a Level 3 Nursery Nurse position. The reason why is because the nursery or childcare setting is looking for a Level 3 qualified member of staff. This is due to ratios and therefore an unqualified person will not be any good.
If you see a position at a nursery but you do not have what they are asking for it is always good to call them or go to the nursery with your CV as maybe further down the line they would be able to take on someone unqualified.
By applying for a position where you do not fit the criteria can make the Nursery Manager feel that you are not able to read an advert and understand it and therefore could go against you.
Lastly it is important not to feel down and to remain positive. Keep applying and you will get there and be offered a position at a nursery where you will be happy.
